Siscodata is a European manufacturer of automatic cell wrapping machines for prismatic and cylindrical lithium-ion battery cells. A proven expertise in prismatic and cylindrical cell wrapping
Since 2020, Siscodata has been designing and building machines for the wrapping of prismatic and cylindrical cells, covering toplabel application, top tape application. Surface pre-treatment: air cleaning and plasma treatment
Before any film, tape or label is applied, the cell surface is prepared to guarantee optimal adhesion. Siscodata integrates ionized air cleaning stations to remove dust and particles from the cell case, and plasma treatment to activate the surface and improve the bonding of adhesive films. Both processes are performed in-line, immediately upstream of the wrapping or taping station.
Blue PET film wrapping for prismatic cells
Our wrapping stations apply insulating PET film around the aluminium case of prismatic lithium-ion cells, providing electrical insulation and mechanical protection of the cell surface. The film is unwound from reel, cut to length and wrapped around the cell with controlled tension, ensuring a wrinkle-free, bubble-free application on all faces. Configurations with bottom venting openings are available for cell designs that require free venting areas on the base of the cell.
Top tape application
Dedicated stations apply protective top tape on the terminal side of the cell, with precise positioning around poles and venting valve. Vision systems verify tape position and application quality on every cell.
Film wrapping vs UV coating: a cost-effective insulation technology
UV coating is often considered as an alternative technology for prismatic cell insulation. Compared with a UV coating line, a Siscodata film wrapping machine offers three decisive advantages. First, investment: a wrapping machine requires only a fraction of the capital cost of a UV coating system. Second, insulation reliability: PET film guarantees full electrical insulation even on corners and edges, precisely the areas where coating processes struggle to achieve uniform coverage. Third, footprint: a wrapping machine occupies less than 25% of the floor space required by a UV coating line, a major benefit in high-density battery production plants.
For customers who want the benefits of both technologies (Wrapping + UV Coating), Siscodata also offers a machine version that pre-treats the plastic film with UV before application, combining the advantages of UV treatment with the reliability and cost-effectiveness of film wrapping.
